Weddell Seal
A resting Weddell Seal with a Gentoo Penguin walking in the background. I was told by our guides that the mucous like substance near the nose is how they eliminate excess salt from their body. Weddell seals, unlike many of the other seals who eat mainly krill, eat fish from very deep water. Weddell seals can dive to below 500m and can stay underwater for over 80 minutes. Incredible.
